Apple enthusiasts today have myriads of applications to choose from with now well over 500,000 apps available for the iPhone applications, iPad and iPod touch, and many of the best being free. The applications spread across multiple categories, ranging from social networking, business, travel, news, entertainment, games, lifestyle and photography to name a few.
With worldwide mobile app revenue expected to reach a staggering $15.1 billion and 17.7 billion downloads at the end of the year, it is evident that there is no stopping mobile apps in the near future. Furthermore, Apple’s paramount success to date is likely to continue to pave the way for future growth in global mobile app sales in a big way. Let us now take a look at the top 5 paid iPhone Apps for 2011 and see how they fared with various audiences.
The list of top paid iPhone Apps for 2011 includes Angry Birds, Flick Home Run, Camera +, Hardest Game Ever and Fruit Ninja. It is interesting to note that 4 of the top 5 paid Apps belong to the games category, which is expected to account for $11 billion in revenue by 2015 – this is nearly double the revenue recorded for the year 2009.
Angry Birds, attributing to a tremendous 500 million downloads across all platforms, both on personal computers and gaming consoles, has received an overwhelmingly positive response amongst audiences who are thronging to the game primarily due to its additive gameplay, comical style and low prices. The game has earned the reputation of being a runaway hit for 2010 and is known to be the largest mobile app success the world has seen so far.
Independent developer Infinity Pocket’s game Flick Home Run is another new entrant to the list of Top Grossing Apps for 2011. Flick Home Run is a simple game that challenges players to hit as many home runs as they can, keeping players interested by adding RPG elements to the mix, giving them the ability to level up, upgrade their skills and earn Game Center achievements.
The next on the list is the Camera+ Application that improves on the iPhone’s built in camera by giving users SLR-like features such as control over focus, exposure and lighting. To date, more than 2 million people have bought the App, generating more than $1.9 million in revenue.
The Hardest Game Ever promises to be a tough and challenging experience for gaming enthusiasts. The game consists of 34 micro games and while it is known to have intense gameplay and makes good use of the iPhone’s input mechanisms, common complaints include bland graphics, unreasonably tough games and no multi-player mode.
Lastly, Fruit Ninja has gained recent popularity amongst a wide audience set due to its simple and casual gaming interface, available in a variety of forms and across multiple platforms. A special casual mode makes its perfect for kids, while at the same time other modes are available for a slightly more challenging gaming experience.

Oh! Pretty interesting thread about iPhone apps. Here in http://www.appisaurus.com/1541-beknown-for-jobseekers/, I found a great mobile app which is intended to help the job seekers. BeKnown introduced its site more than half a year ago. It should get mention because of recent updates, and because it is a great use of the newly-unfolding mobile technology. Joblessness remains high nation-wide. This application at least attempts to help connect people with jobs. It could help get several people jobs, so they can look after their family.

That was a very interesting list. I find that it's almost impossible now to judget the Top 5 iPhone apps because there are so many iphone apps to choose from. Every now and then one will come along and blow me away but then i forget about it for a while and something else comes along. Here's my top 10 favorite iphone apps of all time.

1. Angry Birds - A genius app that will never be duplicated in my opinion.

2. Facebook - I don't care what anyone else thinks this app is awesome. I have almost exactly the same funtionality in my hand that i do on my pc. It's great

3. Twitter

4. WordPress - This is more of a personal favorite but if you have a wordpress blog site it's great. You can post blog posts, upload media, and even approve comments with it. It's extremely handy and a time saver.

5. Order of Chaos - As a fan of World of Warcraft I was excited to see this app. It's almost like WoW in your hand. Very cool and lots of fun.

6. Fieldrunners - One of the best tower defense games ever.

7. Words with friends - highly addictive scrabble knock off. Lots of fun.

8. Cover Orange - If anything gave angry birds a run it was this app. Very fun.

9. MyNetDiary - Food and Diet Diary that blows away the competition. Amazing food database, very details diet analysis. It's great.

10. Plants vs. Zombies - Zombie killing plants. Great graphics, great effects, and it's very easy for anyone to pick it up and play. Plus it's out on all platforms now. Even saw it on ps3. LOL
